The Cards fell 5-2 to North Carolina State in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship Thursday evening at North Carolina’s Anderson Stadium.

Megan Hensley took the loss, giving up four runs, three of them earned, on nine hits, she struck out two in four innings of play. Maryssa Becker allowed one earned run on five hits with one strikeout in three innings of relief.

“I felt like our team didn’t play defense towards the end and we were trying to hit it out of the park instead of doing what we did last weekend, which was hit the shots that we needed to hit, just keep the ball in their outfield, and we didn’t do that well,” said UofL head coach Sandy Pearsall.

Nicole Pufahl went 2-for-3 to pace the Cards offensively.  Junior Alison Szydlowski led off the home half of the fifth with a shot over the centerfield fence for her third homer of the season to bring the score to 5-2, but the Cards would get no closer.

As for the Card’s fate in the NCAAs… the selection committee could pass after loss to NC State in ACC tournament quarterfinals.
